bare trees

This drawing was inspired by bare trees. A couple of weeks ago, I was driving in the country and passed these bare trees that were along the roadside. These particular trees were the only dead trees that were standing in a field by themselves; however the luscious trees in the background helped give the bare trees a new life and meaning. Even though it's sad to see dead trees, I thought it was beautiful in its own special way.

The bottom drawing is the same drawing as the top. I used Chartpak markers, which bleed a lot. Many times I find that the backside of the page (where the marker bled through) is a drawing itself. This was one of those circumstances!

fall trees

Fall has finally made its appearance here in NC. The trees have noticeably changed over the past week or so, which has led me to bring out my sketchbook as well as my camera.

blooms

The Crape Myrtle trees have just started to burst with blooms. I have one of these trees in my backyard and its blossoms have the most beautiful/brightest color I have ever seen..so bright, it almost hurts my eyes...

sweet shop

I love sweets, that's one important thing. However, a place that can satisfy my sweet tooth is the most important. Maxie B's is by far, one of those places. They make the town's best cakes, cupcakes, and frozen yogurt. This cute little bakery is known for all of their delicious concoctions as well as their very chic decor. Best of all, you can order these cakes by the slice..and they aren't just little slices..it's more like three slices in one.

I, often times, find myself craving the Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake..one of my absolute favorites! Today was different though, I decided to try the Birthday Cake..and believe me, I was not let down..

you can stand under my umbrella..ella ella, ay ay ay

I have finally recovered from the "inability to feel creative" sickness. After a week of being at the beach and seeing the wonderful colors of beach umbrellas, I finally got some inspiration to draw. I'm hoping this sickness won't return and I can get back to drawing on a regular basis. We'll see how this goes...wish me luck!

collaboration with brother

Wow, I've been extremely busy this Spring semester. I've been unable to draw like I've wanted to; however one weekend I managed to finally draw something other than stuff for school. I ventured out to Grey's Tavern with my brothers! One of my brothers and I did this drawing together that night and I thought it looked so.....blog-worthy!

*note: this drawing was definitely drawn on the beer coaster they give you at bars!

the wheels on the bike go...

while on campus, all you see is people on their bikes. That can be a good thing, however they make me a little nervous!

i <3 coffee

One thing for sure is that I must have coffee in the mornings. I'm a pretty picky coffee drinker...it must have boldness, richness in flavor, a tiny bit of cream, and no sugar. My favorite places to get coffee are dunkin' donuts and starbucks. mmmmm.

a mantle upgrade

I like a little change in my life. So, I decided that the mantle needed some much needed change from when I first moved in. Instead of spending a lot of money, I decided that this was the perfect time to use my crafting skills. My roomate and I decided to get thrifty and head out to a local thrift store. What did we end up with? Various size frames ranging from $6.99 to $1.99, scrapbook paper from Michael's, and spray paint.

the frames are already feeling much prettier

while the paint was drying, paper was cut to fit each frame

these boots were made for walkin'

It has been very frigidly cold this week. These boots have definitely gotten a lot of much needed use!
