A Naughty Santa?

My roomate and I are having a Dirty Santa Christmas party tonight. The first thing that came through my mind was this overweight, naked Santa Claus so, I couldn't resist drawing it! So far, I am really enjoying the holiday season especially since I have nothing to do except relax, drink coffee, wake up whenever I want to, and finally draw--whatever I want to!

Did you say scale figure?

As you can tell, I was in the mood to draw some scale figures! I had so much fun drawing them I even drew some on a napkin in the EUC--my professor Suzanne would be so proud! The top drawings I drew during shelter bus presentations. I really like the sketchy technique because people are constantly in motion, it is really hard to draw them. I also think the sketchiness [is that a word?] makes the drawings have character.

a pear not for class

I have missed posting drawings that I have done outside of class. Let's just face it--I don't have time--the majority of my posts are for class! I have had the urge to just draw something that doesn't relate to school..so I did (even though I should be doing studio drawings)...and it felt nice. I chose to draw a pear--I'm not sure why..I was tempted to eat it before I could finish drawing.

What in the world is ELSEWHERE?! [final]

Our second assignment at ELSEWHERE was to claim a spot on the first floor by marking it with duck tape. This spot was ours for about two weeks. Our goal in claiming this particular spot was to somehow capture everything in that space. I chose a space that was near the back of the museum and was also resident's desk. The particular space I chose seemed to be very "girly". It consisted mostly of flowers, perfumes, a feathered lamp shade, and sunglasses. I loved my area because it felt cozy due to how little it was. There was also a huge wall of shelves packed full of stuff...very overwhelming! I decided to only focus on the desk because there were things that I thought would show the space the best. I chose to draw the main items that were sitting on the desk space...which are seen above. Overall, I truly loved doing this project. It was definitely a new and unique experience and I am really happy with the way my drawings turned out!

ELSEwhere [photos]

These are a few photos from Elsewhere. This was an extremely fun and unusual experience! Our last visits consisted of working on our final project as well as a project for Elsewhere's website. A later post will show and explain what we had to do!

Time to go to ELSEwhere..

In drawing class we have been doing a project at a place called Elsewhere (check this site out!) for a few weeks. Our first day there we had to pick out five objects to draw. These drawings are the objects that I picked and believe me, it was very hard to pick only five!

El Carreton

Thursday in class Suzanne reserved 30 seats at El Carreton. Not only did we eat lunch there, but we also had to do some sketching! I may or may not have gotten some salsa on my sketchbook =)

Washington, D.C.

Just a few pictures from the D.C. trip. You can really capture some good pictures there!

Scale Figures [In Their Environment]

For the past couple of weeks, my class has been working on scale figures. This week we were to draw scale figure within their environment. So, I chose to draw people who were presenting their project. I used a lot of grey scale markers in my sketches, but the scanner does not scan the cooler shades of grey!! =/

drawing + STARBUCKS

I did this quick sketch in Starbucks a while back. I wasn't sure if I liked it, but once I added color I liked it a lot better. Top drawing is a blind contour! Bottom is a quick sketch..my favorite technique!

mmm...the smell of new markers...

I bought some Chartpak markers a few weeks ago and I absolutely love them! The different colors blend so well together and really help my drawings look more interesting and appealing. Even though, I spent a pretty penny on them they are definitely worth it! I recommend them!

A Necklace

My first blog of 2008! I bought this necklace at Target..(best store ever!)...and I love it so much! The colors go so well together. I haven't drawn as much as I usually do...I gotta get back in the hang of it!
